Graduates of the Indian School of Business (ISB)’s flagship one-year MBA (Post Graduate Programme) in management are being wooed by large corporates and startups alike with the highest number of offers of 1093 as on date as per data released by the B-School.

ISB attributes the record increase in offers coupled with increased salaries for its 812-member class to the successful shift from a purely structured system of the previous years to a flexible hybrid model that also included exclusive days for recruiters who had elaborate hiring processes.

ISB 2016 Placements: Graduates Bag Record Number Of Offers

The ongoing placements process at its campuses in Hyderabad and Mohali saw, alongwith regular recruiters returning with a bagful of offers, the Andhra Pradesh government scouting for talent to fill a few key posts.

The B-School attributed the record increase in offers coupled with increased salaries for its 812-member class to the successful shift from a purely structured system of the previous years to a flexible hybrid model that also included exclusive days for recruiters who had elaborate hiring processes.

Consultancy sector firms McKinsey, Boston consulting Group, EY, Deloitte and KPMG were among top recruiters accounting for 19 per cent of the total offers.

Technology and technology services firms including Microsoft, Apple, Philips, HCL, Tech Mahindra and Directi made placement offers to 11 per cent of the class.

E-commerce companies such as Amazon and Flipkart have so far made 109 offers so far, constituting 10 percent of the total offers till date.

For the first time, 11 ISB students will become Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s Fellows. They are to take care of strategic initiatives and implementation of policies that would enable the state to emerge as a front runner in the country and also as a major investment destination.

While figures on salary average were yet to be made available, this being an interim report, last year’s average CTC was Rs. 19,12,444. During the year 2015 placements, 267 companies had made 987 offers.

According to ISB, the quality of hiring has also improved compared to previous years. A total of 92 offers for senior leadership roles and global leadership programmes were made.

This being an interim report, the average salary data has not been made available. Last year the Class of 2015 bagged an average CTC of Rs. 19,12,444 and 267 companies had made 987 offers

These include several CXO level positions. Several of these were offers made to women students as well.  Axis Bank alone, which runs its ‘Women Leadership Programme’ at ISB, has made 30 offers, up from the 18 last year.  Around 20 international companies have made 73 offers so far.

Interestingly, Startups competed hard with established recruiters picking up seven per cent of the class across sectors like Technology, Telecom, E-Commerce, Transportation and Education with senior management roles on offer.

BFSI, Healthcare & Pharma sectors remained steady and made equal contributions of about eight per cent each of the total offers as on date.

In line with the ‘One School , Two Campus’ philosophy, ISB follows an integrated campus-neutral placements process allowing students and recruiters an equal opportunity to interact with each other irrespective of their location. The lateral hiring process is spread over several months, giving both recruiters and students time to find their best fit.

During this period, the School also supports and encourages students in their independent search efforts to find their preferred careers.

  1. Hi, Am a working professional with close to 17 years of experience and would like to pursue an MBA. I did my Diploma in Hotel Management which is a 3 year course by the National Council. Do I qualify? I am presently with IBM in HR.

    • Hi Gopu, yes you are eligible. But at ISB, the average work ex. is around 5 years. Your experience makes you a better candidate for the same programme at IIM A (PGPX), IIM B (EPGP) where the average class work ex. is around 10 years.

At 17 years work ex. you could also explore an Executive MBA (part-time programmes) since with 17 years work ex. placements can become a bit challenging – the typical profile on offer at MBA placements will be for people with 5-10 years work ex.

  2. Hi . I am Working with an Automotive R & D centre from last six years . I completed my M.Tech from IIT KGP. If I want to change my carrer in management field .Is it better to do MBA from ISB or IIM A . Can you please suggest me good institute among these two and GMAT score required

    • Both are well known schools. You should check recruiters from your area at each B-School before deciding as well as the median pay on offer – IIM A has an edge in terms of more senior level jobs on offer but ISB has a more diverse recruiter base.

  3. I am a working professional from Industrial Automation, have an experience of 10 years, which MBA school would be advisable for pursuing one year MBA IIM-A or ISB?

  4. Thank You so much For your reply. Recently One of my collegue from my organization completed his PGPX from IIM A ,student of class 2015. He was not placed in any company. He has 8 years of work experience in manufacturing. He told that one year MBA is Good only for IT related guys as the 90% of recuriters in IIM’s are IT companies and for others like Manufacturing , operations may not even get placement .May I know your opinion on this issue please. I am basically a mechanical enigineer working in Automobile sector. Your suggestions and Views are very critical for me in deciding weather to persue this course or not. Fianlly my question is – is one year MBA worthdoing for other than IT guys .if not what are the best options avilable for Manufacturing Guys for entering into management domain. Thank you so much for your valuable time and guidance

    • HI Viswa, as we shared in the last message that is a point of concern with IIM A – the course is excellent, however the school’s marketing of the course leaves much to be desired. While IIM A is still focused to a large extent on its two-year pre-experience course, ISB wins hands down here and goes to town about its flagship One Year MBA among both recruiters and students – it consequently attracts a larger pool of recruiters. That finally IIM A’s course ranks higher in world rankings and the learning inside is possibly better, may or may not matter when it comes to a placement for you.

  5. Hi, I am currently a entrepreneur in manufacturing service and own a machine shop from past 6 years. Prior to that I was working in Infosys for 3.6 yrs . My total experience will be 11 yrs by April 2017. I am interested in pursuing MBA from ISB. I want my switch my career into management consulting and want to know if ISB will give preference to my kind of profile. Also, post MBA how will the placements be for 11 yrs experience ? Pease suggest.

  6. Hi, I am currently employed as a Quality Manager in the construction materials industry in the USA with over 10 years experience. I have a Bachelors from India and an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from USA. I am interested in pursuing a 1 year MBA from ISB or IIM A or B and switching to either the operations or management consulting field. Any suggestions on which school would be a better fit for me and what kind of starting salaries I would be able to start at after my MBA? Thanks in advance for your feedback.
