Admissions are open for the one-year full-time MBA program at the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business.

The school has announced three rounds of deadlines on October 5, November 15 and January 10, 2018, for the program starting at its Ithaca campus in May 2018. After January 10, applications will be reviewed on a space available basis with a final submission deadline of March 15, 2018.

Judi Byers, Executive Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, provides a 3-point checklist for the aspirants. Writing on the school blog, she describes the one-year MBA as an intense program that “builds on your advanced academic standing and professional experience to propel your career forward in just one year.”

“You might also want to see if any dual degree programs interest you, as many of our One-Year MBA students pursue a second degree at Cornell,”

First on the list is to check your eligibility. Since the program is incredibly fast-paced, the school would want to be sure that your prior experience and goals align with the objectives of the program before you submit your application.

A member of the admissions team will review your submission to confirm your eligibility or provide you with alternate program options to consider.

If you are found to be eligible, you will be invited for a one-on-one consultation to discuss the program as it relates to your own background and experience and to answer any questions you might have, she says.

The second point is to learn about the School’s approach and resources. Byer’s advice for aspirants is to take some time to research the One-Year program and learn about the support the students receive for achieving their academic and career goals.

“Our Career Management Team’s One-Year Employment Report will give you a better sense of our approach to career development as well as outcomes for recent graduates of the program.

“You might also want to see if any dual degree programs interest you, as many of our One-Year MBA students pursue a second degree at Cornell,” she adds.

The students will also have access to a wind range of student clubs and opportunities for leadership development. Ithaca, with the beautiful Cayuga lake, boating, wineries, farmers markets, hiking and biking trails, and countless restaurants, offers an ideal spot outside of the fast-paced business world to invest in education and personality development.

The third point is in connecting with current students. The  Admissions Ambassadors could be contacted at any point for getting honest insights about their experience as well as suggestions that may help inform your own next steps.

The Ambassadors also lead campus visit program which includes information sessions, class visits, and opportunities to have coffee and conversations with current students.

While submitting the application form, an application fee or $200 is to be given along with the resume, Goals Statement plus two required essays (third optional), List of activities and one letter of professional recommendation (second optional).

You should also provide transcripts from all post-secondary coursework and degrees, GMAT or GRE score report, English Language exam score report for applicants whose native language is not English (TOEFL or IELTS).

You will receive one of three initial notifications following a preliminary review of your application and materials: invitation to interview, waitlist without interview or denial of admission.

Interviews are evaluative and available by invitation only. They may be conducted by an admissions staff member or second-year MBA student. The interviews are held at Ithaca but if you cannot travel to Ithaca, Skype interviews are also offered.

The final decisions are released on a rolling basis. Your decision will be posted to your Johnson Application page and you will receive an email message indicating that your decision is available.
