13th Batch of PGPX Starts Classes at IIM Ahmedabad

The 13th batch of the 1-year Post Graduate Program in Management for Executives (PGPX) started their classes at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) on April 12.

The batch, comprising 138 students, has an average GMAT score of around 700 and GRE score of 232. The average age is around 32 years and average total work experience of 8.9 years. The students have an average international experience of approximately two years.

The present cohort is not much different from the previous batch (2017-18) who too had an average GMAT score of around 700, around 32 years average age, about 8.5 years of average total work experience of 8.5 years and an average international experience of two years.

However, IIMA says, the present batch boast of more diversity in terms of work experience. The students have work experience in 19 industries, innumerable functional areas and 115 companies.

Female representation is 16.67% compared to 25% in the previous batch. The students, 17.39% of whom reside outside India are spread across 11 countries. International work experience is 54.35%. Here again, there was a drop from 57% in the 2017-18 batch.

In the previous batch, 25% were from disciplines other than engineering, They came with work experience in 18 industries and 102 companies. The batch had three international participants.

“Academic rigour and mental discipline would determine success in this programme,” PGPX Chairperson Professor Arindam Banerjee said addressing the incoming class.

The PGPX, launched in 2006, is aimed at experienced professionals to accelerate their career path and assume leadership roles. More than 1,000 students have graduated so far. Till 2016- 17, the intake was just 90 students. Last year, one more section was added.

“With the overwhelming response, we have continued the extra section and accordingly, 138 students have been admitted this year,” IIMA said.

The full time 1-year residential program, as per the Financial Times’ Global MBA Ranking 2018, is ranked 31st in the world.

IIMA has been ranked as number 1 Management institute in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings of India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development.
