Admissions open for One Year MBA 2020 at University of Surrey, Apply by August 31

Eligibility Criteria

You should have a minimum of 2:2 UK honors degree, or a recognized equivalent international qualification. You must also have at least three years of postgraduate experience in a managerial role.

Candidates without a degree or less than 2:2 will be referred to the MBA Program Director, as they may be accepted under exceptional circumstances where work experience is deemed to make up for the lack of academic qualification.

Non-English speakers will have to present IELTS Academic scores of 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each element. In addition, a range of national qualifications providing they are your most recent study of the English language.

These include Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) English 4: 70% in 12th board exam English from CBSE/ISC boards and 80% in 12th board exam English from the majority of Indian state boards; KCSE at grade B from Kenya;  Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), 1119 Advanced English C; Singapore/Cambridge O-level English at grade C; Senior Certificate (with matriculation endorsement), English at grade C (Standard Grade) or grade E (Higher Grade) in South Africa; WAEC English Language at grade C/6 in West Africa.

How to Apply

The application is to be filled in and submitted online. If your supporting documents are under 2MB, you can upload them along with your application form. Larger documents are to be emailed at admissions@surrey.ac.uk or sent by post.

You should indicate in your application whether you wish to be considered for a scholarship.

Once you submit the application, you will receive an acknowledgment. All eligible applicants will be contacted for an interview (face-to-face, Skype or telephone) within ten days of receiving the application. Your eligibility for a scholarship will also be assessed during the interview.

If you are successful at interview, you will receive an offer to study with us along with confirmation as to whether we are granting you a scholarship. This offer will be sent by email and in the application portal. You should confirm and accept your place electronically within 28 days of an offer.

Fees & Other Expenses

The fee for the one year full-time MBA program for UK/EU and overseas students will be £24,700. While there are no associated costs for this program, those wishing to participate in the optional international study tour will have to spend £2,500 approximately. Various scholarships and funding opportunities are available for deserving candidates.

MBA Program Highlights

The first six months from September will be devoted to nine foundation courses in major disciplines including strategic leadership, finance, and economics, strategic marketing, and operations improvement. You will also be participating in the integrated Personal Development program.

You will have a choice of two specific electives and a Capstone project. You will also get a business school certificate in your chosen specialization in Finance, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation or Strategy. Specializations must be agreed in advance with the program team.

The Capstone project will give you a hands-on opportunity for in-depth research on significant, real-world problems through a business plan, a consultancy, or a specialist research topic.

Application Deadlines

The school says you will be able to submit the application until the final deadline on July 22. If seats are still available after that date, fresh applications may be considered.

The 5^th round application deadline is March 11 with the decision by April 23. The 6^th round deadline is April 22 with the decision by June 4. The 7^th deadline is on June 3 with the decision by July 23 and the 8^th deadline on July 22 and the decision by August 20. International applicants requiring a visa should apply by the July 22 deadline.

Eligibility Criteria

You should have a UK first-class or 2:1 honours degree in any subject, or an equivalent overseas qualification. In terms of work experience, you should have completed at least 3 e years’ in a managerial role after earning the degree. The work experience can be from any industry, including the public sector, charitable organizations or the arts.

If you do not meet the minimum academic requirement, you may still be considered if you have professional qualifications with substantial work experience. Those candidates with a  very strong employment record demonstrating a high degree of responsibility will also be considered for admission.

If you do not meet the minimum academic requirement, you will have to sit for the GMAT test and present a minimum score of 600.

Application Process and Selection Criteria

The cohort is selected through a highly competitive process, using the information you have provided on your application form to compare you against your peers. Educational achievements, managerial work experience and any other aspects demonstrated in your application are taken into consideration. Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview that will be focused mainly on your background and potential.

You should include a personal statement as part of your application which should indicate your reasons for applying to the program. The statement should be approximately 500 words in length and answer the questions about Why have you selected this particular program, the motivating factors and additional relevant information in support of this contention and what contributions do you feel you can make to the program.

The overall decision on your application will be based on academic results as described in the entry requirements section, your work experience demonstrated in your CV and other non-academic qualities. Applications are given a score in each area and offers are made to those with the highest overall scores.

The decision will be based on 40% weighting for Academic Performance and 60% for Non-Academic Qualities.

Fees & Other Expenses

The fee for Home/EU & Overseas candidates is £32,500. You will also be asked to pay a deposit of £1,500 within 28 days of the offer to secure your place.

Apart from the fees, you will need to budget for additional costs, including textbooks, Capstone Project expenses and optional extra-curricular treks. The program fee includes a print allowance and optional development weekends.

In the case of the MBA with International Exchange, the fee does not include the additional costs incurred by the exchange with a partner institution. Although exchange students will not be liable for tuition fees at the partner institution, all additional costs such as books, travel and living are payable by the student.

Class Profile

The average age of the current batch (2019-20) is 30 signifying a mature cohort with years of work experience. Female representation is a high 54%, much more than those in MBA programs at other schools.

The class has 52% of the students from Asia/Australasia followed by 26% from North America, 8% each from South/Central America and the UK and 6% from Europe.

In terms of previous employment, Engineering tops with 23% followed by Finance & Financial Services 13%, Consulting and Technology & Telecom 12% each, Not for Profit 8%, Auditing, Creative Industries and Retail 4% each, Food Drink and PR & Marketing 2% each and Others 17%.

Admission Open at Strathclyde for one-year MBA, start date September 2020

Eligibility Criteria

You should have a Bachelor’s degree from a university in the UK or an equivalent academic qualification from elsewhere. If you had undertaken your undergraduate degree at a non-UK institution, a copy of your degree transcript should be submitted.

You should be at least 24 years of age with a minimum of three years’ full-time work experience after graduation. You should have handled such roles involving the management of people and resources.

Applicants without the degree level qualifications could opt for the diploma if they have non-degree/professional qualifications along with at least five years of varied management experience of 10 years or more. Exceptional candidates over the age of 24 with a minimum of two years’ managerial experience are considered for options other than full-time MBA.

The Assessment Process

Apart from reviewing the academic and professional qualifications, the Admission Committee also looks out for talented professionals from a wide range of academic, business and cultural backgrounds with interpersonal and team working qualities. The range and nature of their managerial experience are also taken into consideration.

In order to assess these skills, you would be asked to write a number of essays outlining your experience and aspirations along with references supporting your work experience and academic record.

Next, you may be called for a formal interview to discuss your achievements and aspirations. Applicants are also encouraged to visit the school or center and to ask as many questions as you need to clarify your decision.

Admission tests

while GMAT is not a standard requirement of the admission process, strong verbal reasoning and numerical abilities are critical for the MBA and you may be asked to undertake such a test.

Since the MBA program is highly interactive, you should have an excellent command of the English language, in speaking, writing, reading and understanding. A well-balanced minimum score of 6.5 in IELTS is required for those applicants whose first language is not English. Applicants who fall slightly below these standards may also be considered for admission if they are willing to undertake the pre-sessional study.

You also should be competent in using the computer, especially in word processing, the use of spreadsheets and in report writing.

Program Highlights

Strathclyde business school is triple accredited with membership in AMBA, AACSB & EQUIS. You will be spending 10 months of the program in classroom activities, group work and personal development. The remaining two months are for completing the MBA project.

You will get enough time to plan your future and also in reinventing or re-planning your career. A number of classes are designed to help identify your personal strengths and weaknesses.

The intensive nature of the program will make you rely heavily on teamwork throughout,  encouraging cooperation rather than competition. As the full time MBA is normally undertaken by those changing careers or considering starting up their own business, the program has a more formal, integrated career development element.

Even though the minimum requirement is three years’ work experience, the average is more than nine years. Thus, you will be among colleagues with a wealth of experience. They also come from a wide variety of industries, public service and voluntary agencies.

Accounting and financial managers, consultants, engineers, IT specialists and marketing managers are usually found in the class. Medical professionals, civil servants and military officers may also be part of the class.

The class has a maximum intake of around 60 students from around 100 countries. The small class size gives you more opportunities to interact with the faculty and classmates.

Fees & funding

The tuition fee for 2020/21 is pegged at £31,450. While the majority of students on the full-time program are self-funded, UK students can apply to loan schemes. Non-UK students usually raise their own finances through bank loans or scholarships.

One Year MBA at ESMT, Early Decision Application Deadline on April 2

Application Deadlines for 2021

For January 2021 intake, April 2 will be the Early decision deadline. If you submit the application by that date you will have the first chance to grab a seat. June 3 will the Early bird tuition discount deadline.

If you have plans to enroll in the optional pre-MBA courses from October to December, you should put in the application by the July 2 deadline. Students not needing a visa to enter Germany could apply after this deadline. These courses include intensive German language classes in Berlin.

The October 1 deadline is important as most of ESMT’s competitive scholarships are awarded by this date. However, applying before October 1 would not increase your chances of landing a scholarship. There will also be partial scholarships available even after this date.

November 4 will be the last deadline for those requiring a visa to enter Germany. If the class becomes full by this date, the candidates would be waitlisted. The next deadline on December 2 is for those who do not need a visa to enter Germany. Applications submitted after this date will still be considered on a case by case basis.

At present, applicants from Australia, Brazil, Canada, El Salvador, EU, Honduras, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and the United States do not need visas to enter Germany as a student. However, as these rules are subject to change without notice, you should confirm the position with ESMT or your nearest German Embassy/Consulate.

Graduates from Chinese universities are required to undergo an APS procedure in order to be able to study at a German university.

ESMT MBA Program

The student intake is around 65 students from more than 30 countries. The program focuses on managing big data, sustainable business development, entrepreneurship and global strategic management.

Apart from classroom learning, 50% of the program is directed at personal and professional development through work in diverse teams, discovering your passions and limits and questioning of conventional thinking.

The core courses comprise Managerial Decision Making, Organizational Behaviour, Operations and Supply Chain, Data Analytics for Managers and Accounting.

The specialized track has Managerial Analytics, Innovation & Entrepreneurship and Strategic Leadership. Each track ends with an “in-practice” week to work on simulation projects or visit to relevant companies and organizations.

Managerial Analytics will provide you the skills and knowledge needed to manage analysts and drive insightful decision-making processes. Strategic Leadership will help you develop the skills to design, evaluate, and execute complex growth strategies across borders and in large corporations.

Eligibility Criteria

You should have an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification with at least three years of full-time work experience after graduation. You are required to present GMAT or GRE scores. The average GMAT score is 640.

Those candidates who are not native English speakers should present TOEFL scores (95 minimum), PTE score (64 minimum), IELTS score (7 minimum) or the scores of other English proficiency tests. ESMT Berlin accepts MyBest scores for the TOEFL iBT test, in addition to TOEFL iBT scores from a single test date.

If English is your native language or you earned a university degree exclusively taught in English you do not need to take an English proficiency test.

ESMT’s admissions team considers the applications on the basis of certain key qualities that include excellent analytical ability, both quantitative and qualitative, an international outlook, intercultural competence and a responsible approach to business.

The candidates should have proven teamwork skills in stressful situations, leadership potential, especially for high-performance career growth in a global environment and a willingness to learn from others.

How to Apply

You should fill-up the online application form with your personal particulars including academic and professional details.

You have to provide answers to the Essay questions and submit your resume. Two recommendations are needed along with your test scores and copies of your university transcripts.

After the first screening, if you meet all the requirements, you will be called for a personal interview either at ESMT’s Berlin campus or via Skype. The interview will be conducted by an ESMT professor, director, or senior professional. It lasts for about an hour. Admitted applicants will receive both admission and scholarship decisions, if applicable, at the same time soon after the committee meetings.

To confirm attendance and reserve your place in the program, you must pay a deposit of €4,000 toward your tuition by the date indicated in the offer of admission.

The tuition fee for the full-time, one-year program is €43,500. It includes the cost of books and cases. Travel expenses for the Global Network exchanges are to be paid separately.

In addition to tuition, you should budget enough money for relocation and living expenses of around €1,000 to €1,500 a month.
