Rs 1.1 Cr International, Rs 56 Lakh Domestic: the ‘High’ at IIM A PGPX 2014

You read that right, that’s the highest salary graduates of IIM A’s MBA programme are taking home this year.

The institute released its audited final placements report under the Indian Placement Reporting Standards (IPRS) for the Class of 2014. According to the IPRS norms, these reports have been audited by CRISIL, an independent third-party auditor.

The average domestic salary (CTC) offered to PGPX graduates stands at Rs 26,74,736 this year  and the average international salary is $144,040 (Rs 87,86,440)

While the average salary offered this year has remained flat compared to that offered last year (Rs 27,03,609), the minimum salary offered this year shows healthy growth: the minimum domestic salary offered last year was Rs 15,73,000 while it is Rs 17,00,924 this year, a growth of 8 percent over last year.

Surprisingly, the report released by IIM A does not mention the companies recruiting on campus this year. As per IIM A’s placement reports in the previous years, recruiters for PGPX students have included McKinsey, BCG, Google, Goldman Sachs, Accenture, HCL, KPMG among others.

This year’s report reveals that 7 students were unplaced at the time of making the report, which translates to a 91.2 percent employment by graduation.

While this may seem odd to some of our readers in India, as they are used to stories of 100% placement at IIMs for the two-year PGP programme which largely recruits candidates with 0-1 years work experience (and consequently stands accredited as a Masters in Management by global MBA accreditation body, Association of MBAs, UK), the figure is actually comparable or better than that quoted by most global B-Schools offering one-year and two-year MBA programmes targeted at professionals with on an average 5 years of work experience.

Experienced professionals tend to be choosy about the roles on offer given their extensive experience in certain sectors.

Meanwhile, IIM A’s two-year PGP programme saw graduates bagging a highest domestic salary of Rs 41,00,000, an average domestic salary of Rs 18,81,376 and a minimum domestic salary of Rs 10,00,000. The highest international salary offered to PGP students stood at $1,92,581, while the average international salary stood at $75,005.

30 companies extended 36 offers for students of IIM A’s agribusiness management programme (PGP-ABM) with Godrej Agrovet, GSFC, Kirloskar Oil India Limited and Naga Industries being the top recruiters. The programme saw the highest CTC of Rs 20.50 lakh as against Rs 19.73 lakh last year.

    • Dear Pratik,

Thanks for showing interest in PGPX, which is an abbreviation for 'Post Graduate Programme in Management for Executes' offered by Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. This program is one-year full time MBA and suitable for professional with substantial work experience. Since you are currently studying in class 12, I suggest that it is too early for you to plan about PGPX program. You must now focus on completing your board exam first. Nevertheless, details of the PGPX program can be found on the IIM-A website (http://www.iimahd.ernet.in/programmes/pgpx.html)

      Wish you all the best,
      PGPX @ IIMA

    • hey Satvik, These are two entirely different streams. IITs and NITs teach you engineering while IIMs teach you marketing, strategy, HR etc - skills you need to run a business. Also while IIT and NIT's B.tech is a bachelors course and can be pursued after school, IIMs provides post-graduate degree - a globally accredited MBA (one-year full time course) for candidates with 5+ work ex. and a globally accredited MBM (two-year full time course) for candidates with 0-3 years work ex.

        • Hi Zamaan, while most one year mba programmes in India need a minimum of 2 years work experience and others such as IIM B, C, I, L need 5 years of work experience, IIM A instead needs students to be at least 27 years of age. There is no minimum work ex. requirement.

    • Hi Manoj, Along with a graduation you would need substantial work experience to be eligible for IIM A's PGPX. IIM A does not specify the number of years of work experience but needs candidates to be 27 years of age.

    • Hi Siva, Admissions for a MBA around the world are holistic - the same is true for the MBA (one-year) at IIMs. There is no cutoff - scores are one of the aspect the B-Schools consider when they evaluate your application. Also, since these courses are self-funded by IIMs, reservations are not provided for in this course. Your school scores look good! Also, remember most One Year MBA courses (A, B, C) included exclusively accept GMAT scores.

  • I was curious about how a one year course can lead to any kind of significant change in perception of the business world and more importantly a candidates capability of addressing the seemingly higher responsibilities that subsequent roles may require.

Could you write an article on these aspects rather than salary alone. In fact I believe even with salary a five year gain is what international schools report as reliable. Do we have any such data?

    • Hi ensee we have covered many of these aspects in depth through articles from our contributing bloggers - check the section on the main menu for some insights on this. Europe has largely been a one year mba market for ages - INSEAD, Oxford, Cambridge, Cranfield, IMD are some of the top schools with proven one year models with alumni in top echelons of management. So yes one year can be enough to create managers out of specialists provided the students have sufficient work ex.
