Fine Balance Between Engineering & Business at 37% Each for Class 2017 at RSM Erasmus

The International full-time MBA Class of 2017 at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) has managed to strike a fine balance between students with an engineering background and those with economics & business with the intake at 37% each.

The remaining 25% comprise Science & Medicine (12%), Humanities & Art (9%), Law (3%) and Marketing & Sales (1%). The class has a total 106 students. The average age of the cohort is 29 years. The gender ratio is 37% female and 63% male. They have an average work experience of 6 years.

As many as 35 nationalities are represented. In demographic distribution, 20% are from Europe, 19% from Asia, 18% each from the Indian subcontinent & Latin America and 7% each from North America and South East Asia.

The 1-year MBA program lays special focus on providing the participants with a global mindset. With 97% of the cohort being international, the students will be working closely with people from diverse backgrounds.

The program gets underway in January. In the first term that runs through March, the foundations of management are taken up. These are Quantitative Platform for the business that highlights the importance of statistics as a decision support system in management.

For the participant, your career advancement is taken care of with personal coaching, mentoring and networking throughout the program duration. The Personal Leadership Development program (PLD) helps you discover what motivates others—and more importantly, what motivates yourself as an individual.

RSM claims that its sustainable thinking puts the students ahead of the global economy. “The best leaders take actions that benefit business, society and the environment all at once. It’s a difficult task, but our MBA graduates are up to the challenge. We emphasise sustainable business in our approach and produce ethical leaders in the process.”

It also says the school’s entrepreneurial approach allows students to turn their ideas into innovations. All MBA students have direct access to the knowledge and a network of the Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship at the Rotterdam Science Tower, home to more than 50 innovative companies. The Centre helps start-ups, SMEs and corporates besides hosting entrepreneurship events.

The Organisational Behaviour, Managerial Accounting, Management Science, Economic Environment of Business courses are taken up in addition to RSM’s special Personal Leadership Development.

Term 2 (April – Mid June) focus is on the practice of management. It involves Strategic Management, Financial Management, Human Resources Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management, Business, Society and Sustainable Development.

Term 3 (Mid June – August) focus is on Advanced Career Options. Participants have to select one from among Advanced Corporate Finance, Advanced Marketing, Advanced Strategy, Advanced Sustainability, Advanced Supply Chain Management and Living Management Consulting Project.

Term 4 (September – December) deals with MBA electives and international opportunities. It includes international study tours as well as an optional internship in which students have worked with major global firms including Nike, ABN AMRO, Friesland Campina, McKinsey, Microsoft, Amazon and The World Bank.(Image Source:Wikipedia.org)
