Is IMI Delhi’s EPGDM a Career Booster for Middle Level Managers?

Started in 1984, the 15-month Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Management (EPGDM) Program at the International Management Institute, New Delhi, is designed for middle level managers who wish to take up leadership roles in the industry or have been identified by their organisations for such roles. The Program that includes a 5-week international study module provides general management and functional area orientation with emphasis on international and cross-cultural exposure.

In an interview with Oneyearmba.co.in, Prof. Sanjay Dhamija, Chairperson, EPGDM program, lists the special characteristics that define IMI as a management institute, gives details about the admission process, the career boost that students experience on completion of the program and its relevance to employers in various sectors of business.

Q: What are the special characteristics which single out IMI as an Institute?

Ans: Since its inception in 1984, the International Management Institute, New Delhi has been acknowledged as the epitome of quality business education, preparing managers for the leadership roles in the industry. IMI, New Delhi takes pride in its intellectual acumen, in a faculty having prior industrial experience in diverse functional areas, actively involved in research and consultancy.

Q: How does the Application and Selection process work?

Ans: Applicants should complete the online application form and submit it along with the admission fee (Rs. 2000 for self sponsored candidates, company sponsored candidates are exempted from paying this fee) before midnight February 10, 2017. For all self-sponsored candidates, admission to the Program is based on scores in the Common Admission Test (CAT) or GMAT. For further details visit https://www.imi.edu.

Q: Can someone be sponsored by his/her organisation and would there be a difference in the application and admission process?

Ans: Yes IMI, New Delhi provides the corporate sponsored EPGDM program. Candidates sponsored by a Public Sector Unit (PSU) or Corporate House will be shortlisted on the basis of information provided in the application form and the recommendation of the sponsoring organization. Based on the above short listing, applicants will be called for a Personal Interview to assess their suitability for the Program. Interviews will be tentatively held during February/ March 2017. For foreign students, telephonic interview may be conducted.

Q: Is GMAT / CAT score compulsory?

Ans: Yes, it is compulsory for the self sponsored candidates. Candidates sponsored by a PSU or Corporate House will be shortlisted on the basis of information provided in the application form and the recommendation of the sponsoring organization. In exceptional circumstances, self-sponsored candidates may be permitted to take IMI, New Delhi’s admission Test in lieu of either CAT or GMAT scores.

Q: Can a person with low GMAT score hope to be considered?

Ans: Yes, the selection will be based upon CAT/ GMAT score, personal interviews, prior academic track record and relevant work experience.

Q: To which fields of business is the EPGDM relevant?

Ans: The EPGDM is designed for experienced middle level managers who wish to take up leadership roles in the industries such as financial services industry, consulting industry, IT/computer services, pharmaceuticals/healthcare etc. or have been identified by their organisations for such roles. The Program provides general management and functional area orientation with emphasis on international and cross-cultural exposure.

Q: Are there job opportunities available afresh or would it mean continuing in the same company / job?

Ans: IMI New Delhi’s Placement Cell would provide assistance for placement of self-sponsored candidates. Candidates who are sponsored by their organizations will not be eligible for receiving any placement assistance.

Q: Will a good placement be available? In what salary range and who will be the recruiters?

Ans: IMI New Delhi support placement opportunities to the EPGDM participants. In the past, participants had been placed with companies like Libsys, ICICI Prudential, Cushman & Wakefield, First Source, Adecco, HDFC Bank, Accenture, Bharti Reality Ltd, Deloitte Consulting India Pvt Ltd, Power Trading Co. QAI, Royal Bank of Scotland, RPG, WIPRO Infotech etc.

Q: Are there any scholarships?

Ans: No.

Q: What attributes should one have to do well in the course? Is there any ideal profile of those who are selected?

Ans: The course is well designed to suit the needs of anyone who is already in the middle management level and wants to climb higher in the corporate ladder to top leadership positions. The attributes related to excelling in the course are the ones that you learn and hone at the workplace, such as diligence, hard work, dedication as there are no substitutes available to them.
