As you can see, the range of scores suggests some with a 600 GMAT score also got admission to the course.

The Flip Side

ISB does not provide a breakdown of how many students got admission at a 600, 610, 620, 630 or a 640 GMAT score nor does it specify how many students got admission at a 700+ GMAT score.

Neither does it put out information on the quality of the profile or work experience of the candidates who made it to ISB with a 600+ GMAT score.

One would assume that the profiles would be stellar, but there is no factual information backing this assumption.

Why B-Schools keep the ‘accepted GMAT range’ wide

A low GMAT attracts more students

Be aware that B-Schools often keep a wide range of GMAT scores to lure aspirants with low GMAT and GRE scores to fill in an application:

Having a low GMAT entry barrier instantly widens the awareness of a B-School since more MBA aspirants start considering the school, recommending it to their friends and family as an option to look at even if they have a low GMAT score.

More applications also mean more application fee for MBA colleges!

Each application brings in more application money. It might seem like a small amount, but considering the overall application volume, the number isn’t small.

More applications makes for a fancy Applicant to Admit Ratio

You may think only you need to beef up your profile for B-Schools. The truth is that B-Schools also needs to constantly up their game to attract the best students.

Having a fancy 10:1 admit ratio is only possible by reducing seats or adding applicants – and the first is of course not an option for B-Schools which are looking to maximize revenue like any other business.

To sum it up, applying to ISB with a 600+ GMAT or similar GRE score is a game of chance – but it is not impossible!
