The Founder Dean of MDI Murshidabad, Prof. (Dr.) Atmanand has been associated with MDI Gurgaon, one of India’s premier B-schools for more than 22 years. Executing varied leadership roles at MDI Gurgaon, he worked as the Founder Dean of MDI School of Energy Management, Dean of Executive Post Graduate Programmes and School of Public Policy & Governance and Senior Professor of Economics.

In addition to playing a key and decisive role in MDI’s intellectual and leadership functioning, Prof. (Dr.) Atmanand is also serving as Independent Director on the Board of Central Bank of India.

Previously, he has worked as the Independent Director on the Board of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) and PTC India Ltd. He has also held various responsibilities including Member of the State Finance Commission, Government of Bihar, and Planning Commission, Government of India.

A recipient of the coveted and prestigious Rashtriya Gaurav Award, Indian Achievers Award, and Economic Development Award, Prof. (Dr.) Atmanand is a great leader, deep researcher, professor, and writer. MDI Gurgaon Professors appear among the best around the world

Marking a milestone, two professors from India’s leading B-school, MDI Gurgaon have figured among the top 2 percent scientists in a global list based on an independent peer-reviewed study titled “A standardized citation metrics author database annotated for the scientific field”. The authors of this study, one of them is from the prestigious Stanford University, released a list of 1,59,683 scholars out of which nearly 1,500 are from India.

The scholars are ranked across all scientific fields based on their ranking of a composite indicator that considers six citation metrics namely total citations; Hirsch h-index; co-authorship-adjusted Schreiber hm-index; number of citations to papers as single author; number of citations to papers as single or first author; and number of citations to papers as single, first, or last author.

Prof. Rajesh Kumar Singh, Professor in Operations Management has ranked first among 5 Indian researchers in the Business and Management category. His global rank in the list is 252. Prof. Sajal Ghosh, Associate Professor in Economics made it to the list of world’s top 2% scientists from the Energy category while his global ranking is 1790.

NMP Class Profile

The 55-member cohort has an average work experience of 7.8 years and international work experience of 228 months. In effect, it means you will be among people who have put in a number of years in their chosen profession. It translates to lively classroom discussions, exchange of knowledge and networking opportunities.

Take a look at the work experience. While 43% of the cohort came in with 6-8 years, 22% had 8-10 years, 18% less than 6 years and 16% with 10+ years.

NMP 2019 Placement Details

At the Placement, the students received an average salary of Rs 19 LPA with the median salary at Rs 18 LPA and the highest at Rs 60 LPA.

In sector-wise placement, 50% chose IT, 23% Manufacturing, 14% Hospitality, 10% Finance and 3% Consulting.

“The diversity of experienced professionals makes the NMP program unique. There was a steady flow of companies visiting the campus. Middle management roles like senior manager, general manager and assistant vice president were offered besides the regular roles of manager, project manager, consultant and analyst,” he added.

“Many of the companies had roles based in India yet their scope was global in nature and people were hired as part of global teams deployed in India. The major recruiters included Trident, Accenture, HSBC, Genpact, TCS, Infosys, Hero Fincorp and Udaan to name a few.

“Against the common perception of lesser jobs at the middle management level, many of these companies had expansion plans and required a good number of seasoned professionals who can start performing from day one, ” Prof. Tripathi said.

Saying that companies prefer to hire experienced professionals for their expansion plans, he said only those having five years and above work experience were eligible to enroll for NMP. He also noted that the NMP was the oldest full-time program at MDI.

NMP Program Details

During the course of the program, the participants are expected to develop an ability to recognize and seize opportunities in a competitive environment. global sensitivity and mindset.

Highly Interactive Program Demands Student Participation

NMP demands substantial participation from the students due to its highly interactive nature. The teaching is based on recent research studies and experience gathered from around the world. Teaching methods include lectures, case studies, seminars, group discussions, business games, role plays, simulations exercises, structured and unstructured group work and field visits.

The emphasis is on motivating the participants to integrate the concepts, learning across the core curriculum and apply them to their own work experience and contemporary business situations.

Group Activities Solve Business Problems

Group activities provide excellent opportunities to examine a business problem collectively and to learn from the varied cross-functional experiences of the participants. The students will be involved in group assignment / submissions of case analysis and presentations as also group tasks in learning by doing.

NMP also has an optional International Component. After completion of 12 months at the MDI campus, participants will get international exposure for a period of two weeks in some South East Asia Business Schools.

Continuous Evaluation Keeps You on Your Toes

During the program, the participants are evaluated on a continuous basis with a final examination at the end of each term. The course evaluation is in terms of letter grades.

You have to achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average in each term, as well as a minimum letter grade in each course. Evaluation of the dissertation project work will also be counted in the overall performance.

The dissertation/project report is to be submitted within three months of completion of the course. Otherwise, you will be debarred from the program.

All components of the NMP should be completed within a period of maximum two years from the date of commencement of the program.

Participants who successfully complete the Program are awarded the Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (National Management Programme) which is recognized by AICTE.

MDI Gurgaon had, way back in 1988 started the Post-Graduate Diploma in Management called National Management Program (PGDM-NMP) that focuses on developing leaders who will excel in the rapidly changing business environment, become agents of change with a customer-centric orientation.

The program was once meant for mid to senior level government officials and sponsored candidates from public sector units (PSUs). However, in recent years, it has started taking participants from private organizations with work experience of more than or equal to five years. Thus, the cohort comprises mostly senior officers or executives in senior leadership in PSUs.

Asked about the current class profile, a spokesperson of the school said NMP 2018-19 has 57 participants with n average experience of 8 years in the average age group of 31 years. They are drawn from diverse professional backgrounds – medicine, Army, power sector, oil & gas, automobiles and IT.

The diversity is of immense value as during discussions in the class as well as during projects, everyone brings their own perspective from their learning. The pedagogy employed in the program demands substantial participation as it is highly interactive.

“Though we all have considerable knowledge yet we all learn from each other and this helps us develop a wholesome perspective to all business problems. We all are enriching each other in one way or the other,”

PGDM-NMP also has an optional international immersion that participants could avail of after completion of 12 months of the program for two weeks in some selected business schools in South East Asia.

Asked about placements, the spokesperson said the process was going on for the current batch. “We are witnessing major global employers visiting the campus for recruitment. To name a few domains, we have companies from Financial Services, IT, Consulting and Manufacturing sectors lining up for placement for mid to senior management profiles. The batch would pass out in March 2019,” she added.

During the program, the participants are evaluated on a continuous basis. There is a final examination at the end of each term. Course evaluation is in terms of letter grades.
