News coming out of Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM C) confirms what your website Oneyearmba.co.in has reported regularly: the MBA at Indian B-schools is the One year MBA and the two-year PGP/PGDM course is a Masters in Management (MIM/MBM). IIM Calcutta has just announced that it has been awarded MBA accreditation for its One year MBA (PGPEX) and MBM accreditation for its PGP course by global accreditation body Association of MBAs, UK (AMBA)

IIM Calcutta has just announced that it has been awarded MBA accreditation for its One year MBA (PGPEX) and MBM accreditation for its two-year PGP course by global accreditation body Association of MBAs, UK (AMBA).

AMBA accreditation service is the global standard for all MBA, DBA and MBM programmes. Since its inception in 1967, Association of MBAs (AMBA) has accredited MBA, DBA and MBM programmes at over 200 B-schools in more than 70 different countries.

IIM, Lucknow, SP Jain, Mumbai, MDI, Gurgaon and IMI, Delhi are the only other business Schools in India to have received an MBA accreditation by AMBA. These B-schools, again, have received the AMBA accreditation solely for their One year MBA programmes that demand a minimum of five years of prior work experience from candidates joining the course.

At most global B-schools, the MBA class as a whole averages 5 years of prior work experience. The One year MBA programmes in India are following global standards for admission to the course.

Top officials at IIM C said that this AMBA accreditation is for the PGPEX (MBA) and PGP (MBM) programmes at IIMC and for a period of five years, initially.

With the accreditation, IIM C joins the list of elite global B-schools that offer AMBA accredited MBA programmes that includes the likes of INSEAD, France, Oxford, UK, Schulich, Canada, HEC, Paris, London Business School, UK and IMD, Switzerland.

“We are indeed happy to receive this recognition. It reaffirms our commitment to academic excellence, and marks a significant step towards our journey to be regarded as a global leader in management education,” said Saibal Chattopadhyay, director of IIM Calcutta commenting on the accreditation in an official communique.

According to Andrew Main Wilson, chief executive at AMBA, the association accredits just one per cent of the world’s MBA offering B-schools.

“We are both pleased and proud to confirm the receipt of IIM Calcutta’s AMBA accreditation. AMBA accredits just 1% of the world’s MBA business schools and IIM Calcutta’s initial 5-year accreditation reflects the quality of their MBA programmes, faculty and students. India is one of the world’s largest business education market and IIM Calcutta is one of its very finest business schools,” said Wilson.
