The last date for submitting the application for the Common Aptitude Test (CAT) 2018 has been extended till September 26, according to an announcement on the official website, iimact.ac.

Earlier, the application deadline for the computer-based test, the scores of which are mandatory for admission to management programs in all the 20 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and several other business schools in India, was on September 19.

Meanwhile, another announcement on the website said candidates with improper/blurred photographs could log in and reload their photograph from September 27 (10:00 AM) to September 30 (5:00 PM).

This is valid only for those candidates who have paid the Registration fee and registered successfully for CAT 2018 before the specified deadline.

The 2018 edition of the Common Admission Test (CAT) will be held on November 25 in two sessions. The test is organised on a rotational basis by the IIMs. This year, IIM Calcutta is holding the exam.

CAT 2018 Convener Prof Sumanta Basu said the test will be held in test centres spread across 147 cities. The candidates will be given the option to select 4 test cities in order of preference. Cities and centres will be assigned only after the last date for CAT 2018 registration. So, there is no need for candidates to rush and block slots and cities.

After submission of the application, candidates will be permitted to download their examination admit card from October 24 till the date of the test.

While efforts would be made to assign candidates to their first preferred city, in case if it is not possible, they will be assigned a city following their given order of preference. In the rare case that a candidate is not allotted any of the preferred cities, he/she will be allotted an alternate city. However, candidates will not be able to select the session because it will be assigned randomly.

Candidates must pay the registration fee through online payment modes only, which will include credit cards, debit cards and net banking.

The 180-minutes test is divided into three sections. Section I deals with Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Section II with Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning and Section III with  Quantitative Ability.

Candidates are allotted 60 minutes for answering questions in each section. They will not be able to switch from one section to another while answering questions in a section.

Some questions in each section may not be of a multiple-choice type. Instead, direct answers will have to be typed on the screen. The tutorials on the format of the test, available on the CAT website from October 17 will provide the details. The basic onscreen calculator is allowed for computation.

The CAT website contains a section on Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) that addresses some of the commonly asked queries. Candidates could also contact the CAT helpdesk over email or phone.
