GRE Eligibility

GRE does not have any prescribed age limit or qualifications. As an assessment test for admission to graduate programs, candidates are expected to have successfully completed any of the undergraduate programs.

Scheduling GRE General Test 2019

The first step for scheduling the GRE test will be to go to the ETS website and create an ETS account.

The name you use when you create your account will be the one used for the GRE General Test registration. The name, including its spelling, must exactly match (excluding accents) the name printed on the identification or ID documents that you will present on the day of the test.

If the name on the account and the name on your ID do not match, you may be prohibited from taking the test or your test scores may be canceled after you take the test. In such cases, your test registration fee will be forfeited as well.

Identity Requirements

ETS specifies that the ID should be presented in the original form. Photocopied documents are not acceptable and documents cannot be presented on a cell phone or any other electronic device.

It should be a government-issued national/state/province identity card that is recognized by the country in which you are a citizen or permanent resident. The ID should be valid and bear your first and last name exactly (excluding accents) as it was when registering for the test.

It should have a recent, recognizable photograph and include your signature (the name and signature on the ID document must match).

The computer-delivered test is offered the year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. In the case of the paper-delivered tests, you should ensure that there is sufficient time for score reporting when scheduling the test so that you can meet the admissions deadlines of the schools.

How to Register for GRE Test

You can log directly into your ETS Account at www.ets.org/mygre. Sign In for Test Takers. Once you have confirmed the name you will use for your Account, select the grey “ETS Account” button in the upper right portion of your screen to get started.

On the ETS Account login page select the blue “Create an Account” button under “New Users.”

The ETS Account you are about to create will allow you to register for the GRE General Test, GRE Subject Tests and apply for testing accommodations. It will let you view, change or cancel your registration and purchase test preparation materials prior to test day.

After the test day, you will be able to use your account to view your scores, order Additional Score Reports, access the FREE GRE Diagnostic Service, and other such activities.

As you begin to enter your name, field requirements will pop up on the screen as well as a reminder of the “Name you use to register” guidelines. Be sure to provide your entire first name, or given name, as it appears on your ID documents that you will present at the test center.

Do not register under a nickname and do not register with only an initial as your first name. Be sure to include your entire last name, family or surname.

If you have a two-part last name, be sure to supply your complete last name as it appears on the ID documents (excluding accents). For example, the last name of Fernandez (space) de (space) Córdova (with an accent on the first O) would be entered as Fernandez (space) de (space) Cordova with no accent.

After entering your phone information, select your Communications Preferences for text messages and special offer emails. And then select “Next.”

Create a personalized username and password and then select a security question from the drop-down box and enter your answer. Review the Terms and Conditions and then select the “I agree” box and then “Next.”

Review your information for accuracy. If revisions are needed, select the “Back” button. If they are not, select “Submit.” You will receive a confirmation page and your account is set – now you can register to take the GRE General Test.

Also, in the inbox of the email address you used to create your account, you will receive an email confirmation as well. If you don’t see it, be sure to check your junk or spam folder for it.

Once the account has been created, you could decide on which graduate institutions or fellowship sponsors you want to receive your scores. As part of your test fee, you can designate up to four score recipients. If you prefer to send score reports later or want to send score reports to more than four recipients, you can send additional score reports for a fee.

You will have the option to sign up for the free GRE Search Service used by graduate and business school recruiters around the world to find prospective students when you register for the GRE General Test.
