INSEAD, the leading international business school, has appointed Professor Ilian Mihov, currently Interim Dean of the school, as Dean of INSEAD. With campuses in Europe (Fontainebleau, France), Asia (Singapore) and Abu Dhabi, INSEAD is the only global business school with a multiple campus structure. As a signal of the global scale of the school, Professor Mihov will be the first INSEAD Dean to be based in Asia, with frequent travel around the world to engage the entire global INSEAD community. The School’s presence in Europe will remain strong thanks to an appointed Deputy Dean and full academic and administrative team which will be anchored on the Europe campus in France, the home of the 53-year old independent business school.

Franz Humer, Chairman of the INSEAD Board, said: “Ilian’s deep roots at INSEAD will support him in this important leadership role to position INSEAD as the pre-eminent global business school and the faculty and the Board of Directors have given him an exceptional vote of support. With his academic strengths, strong connections with business and governments, and his outreach to alumni, donors, faculty and staff, Ilian will draw the community together to develop a bold strategy for INSEAD’s future.”

“We are fortunate that our predecessors foresaw the rise of globalisation and established a school destined to be the pioneer in the internationalisation of business and education. As Dean of the school, I will uphold the values of the founders, nurture INSEAD’s vibrant intellectual environment, ensure innovation in our teaching to attract high quality students from around the globe, and increase the reputation of INSEAD through engaging our extraordinary network,” said Professor Mihov.

Alvin Tan, Assistant Managing Director of the Singapore Economic Development Board said, “INSEAD has been a valuable partner to Singapore since establishing its campus here over a decade ago. By delivering its top management and executive education programmes here, INSEAD has helped to place Singapore on the world map as a location to develop and manage talent. Basing Professor Mihov in Singapore clearly speaks to the school’s global mission, one of which we are delighted to be a vital part.”

Professor of Economics Mihov joined INSEAD in 1996, teaching macroeconomics and econometrics in the One year MBA, EMBA, PhD and many executive education programmes as well as in the Global Leadership Fellows Programme of the World Economic Forum. He has been nominated several times as one of the best teachers in the One year MBA and EMBA programmes and he has won the Outstanding Teacher Award in 2006, 2008 and 2009. His research is on topics related to monetary policy, fiscal policy and economic growth. He is also a research fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research (London, UK). He was a member of the Scientific Committee of the Banque de France’s Research Foundation (2002-2010) and of the Advisory Board of the Bulgarian National Bank. In 2010/11 and 2011/12, he served as a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Fiscal Crises.

Professor Mihov’s papers have appeared in many academic journals including the American Economic Review and the Quarterly Journal of Economics. He has given interviews for BBC, CNBC Asia, Agence France Press, Dow Jones Newswire and many other newspapers and magazines. Professor Mihov is a regular keynote speaker, lecturer and panellist at events organised by PwC, WEF, KPMG, Hewlett-Packard, Bloomberg, Swiss Re, Alstom, Deutsche Bank, BNP Paribas among other companies.

Professor Mihov holds a PhD degree from Princeton University and a B.S. in business administration from the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina where, in 2006, he was recognised as a Distinguished Young Alumnus.
