AFR Boss MBA Rankings

The Financial Review Boss MBA ranking is a publication that is published biennially since 2007. The Australian business schools are invited to take part. They are given an overview of the methodology of the rankings.

Besides, the business schools can give their feedback. In the 2019 AFR BOSS MBA Rankings, the University of Sydney took the first spot for its Executive MBA and main MBA programs.

The University of Sydney Business School’s $63,000 MBA was ranked the best with alumni for having Overall Satisfaction and Value for Money. These rankings were based on several factors, including surveys taken from the different business schools and alumni.

The Adelaide Business School, QUT Business School, and the University of Adelaide ranked 1, 2, and 3 in 2017 have found themselves two places behind. They are now ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively.

The Griffith Business School was placed at fifth rank and rounded the top five. A notable drop was the University of Queensland that was ranked second, was now eight. Likewise, the Melbourne Business School could not make it in the top 10 list itself.

The University of Sydney takes the first spot of top Executive MBAs. QUT Business School, which was first ranked in 2017, is now ranked second. The AGSM @ UNSW Business School was ranked third, EMBA with Bond Business School was fourth-ranked. The fifth rank was awarded to the Sydney Business School.

FT Top 100 Global Australian Rankings

The top three business schools to MBA in Australia, Melbourne Business School, AGSM @ UNSW, and Macquarie Business School, have managed to retain their places according to the latest Global MBA Ranking for 2020.

This was compiled by UK-based FT (Financial Times). The Melbourne Business School ranked at the top for MBA managed to rank at 80th (2019: 61).The AGSM @ UNSW got the 88th (2019: 70), and the Macquarie Business School remained in the top 100 at 97th (2019: 74).

Interestingly, the Macquarie MBA graduates were among the highest-paid salaries after three years of graduation. They managed to secure jobs that paid an average salary of $US120,091 ($AUD177,000).

This came at an increase of 83% on their pre-MBA salary. Likewise, the AGSM @ UNSW MBA graduates received a salary of $106,000 ($AUD156,000) after their 3 years of graduation, with an increase of 62% before their pre-MBA pay.

Finally, we take a look at the Melbourne Business School graduates. They received a salary of $US115,679 that showed an increase of 74% after 3-years graduation.

The Economist Rankings

The Economist magazine has shown excellent trends on Australian MBA programs’ performance based on their global MBA ranking. Perhaps, the COVID-19 and the non-participation of famous business schools globally may have caused minor upsets in the influential list that otherwise consists of predicable business names.

Despite being ranked at 34th, six places down, the University of Melbourne’s Melbourne Business School managed to secure Australia’s top-ranked full-time MBA program from last year. The Macquarie Business School surged ahead to 41st, a massive jump of 33 places up, and the University of Queensland Business School was ranked 47th, seven places up.

The Economist had spoken to thousands of MAB students to determine why they decided to enroll in a full-time MBA program from a particular business school. The rankings were chosen based on the feedback received.

Some of the main criteria were the quality of the faculty, facilities present in the university, and the career services department’s efficiency. As far as the student quality criteria were concerned, three Australian business schools did exceptionally well.

They are the UQ, which was the top-ranked school globally, and Macquarie was placed third. Lastly, we have the Melbourne Business School that managed to secure the 16th rank.

QS World University Australian Rankings

According to the latest rankings by QS Top MBA, two Australian MBA business schools, the Melbourne Business School (3rd) and the AGSM at the University of New South Wales (5th),managed to secure top MBAs in Asia.

In the global rankings, the Melbourne Business School MBA was ranked 34th and AGSM 39th.Besides them, four Australian MBA business schools, the MGSM Macquarie University, University of Western Australia, UQ Business, and Bond University, managed to rank within the top 200.

Inside the top 250 ranks saw some exciting names, including Deakin University, La Trobe Business School, RMIT, Wollongong (Sydney Business School),and Victoria Graduate School of Business.

The top five business schools globally were Harvard (United States), INSEAD (France), HEC Paris (France), Stanford (United States), and London Business School (United Kingdom).

According to the MBS report, the average class strength was 52 students. Besides, the average age of the students was close to 28 years. A comprised of 50% International students, and one out of 5 students was a woman.

The class size in the AGSM was close to 44 students. The average age of the student was 30 years, and 63% comprised of international students. A notable fact was that 30% of students were women.

Forbes Australian MBA Rankings

In the latest bi-ennial Forbes MBA rankings, the AGSM @ UNSW Business School’s two-year and full-time MBA program was chosen as the best globally. It secured the eighth spot. Notably, this is the first time the AGSM@UNSW Business School’s two-year MBA is among the top 10 Forbes rankings.

This was just after a week when their Executive MBA was chosen  third place in the AFR BOSS MBA rankings. Interestingly, the AGSM program was the only Australian MBA program to have featured in the Forbes rankings.
