The PGPM Class of 2017 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s SP Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) comprises 138 students, including 34 females. While 62 of them are specialising in Information Management, 42 are in Operations & Supply Chain, 27 in Marketing and 7 in Finance.

With an average age of 29, 38% of the participants have international work experience. The average work experience is 7 years and average international experience 2 years. The average GMAT score is 658. The program has an 1110-strong alumni network.

In terms of the number of years at work, 83% (114) students have 5-8 years of experience and 17% (24 students) 9-12 years of experience.

The Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM) is a one-year full-time program approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA), UK. It commences with 3 months of blended learning followed by the 12 months full-time residential component.

With an average age of 29 years and average work experience of 6.6 years, they are already in the thick of action – balancing theory and marketing simulations with real-life insights from experienced marketers, listening to the voice of customers and keeping their ears close to the ground to discover emerging trends.

The course reports a Rs 35.4 lakh highest Salary (domestic) and a Rs 16.5 Lakh Avg. Salary for the class of 2016 as per the placement report audited by CRISIL. 

The PGPM, now in its 13th year, focuses on enhancing the functional and managerial capabilities, thereby making the participants ready to take up leadership positions. It also equips them to see cross-functional linkages and thus prepare them for decision making at a middle management level and beyond.

While due importance is given to classroom learning, the effort is made to build suitable stimuli into non-classroom learning. The participants benefit from SPJMR’s globally acclaimed and award-winning value-based leadership modules like Assessment and Development of Managerial and Administrative Potential (ADMAP), the Personal Growth Lab (PG Lab), the Development of Corporate Citizenship (DOCC) and the Science of Spirituality (SOS).

Along with theoretic classroom inputs, the programme encourages the participants to constantly be in touch with the industry and industry trends, through live projects, cases, guest speaker series and mentorship programmes with the Industry leaders.

The Annual conclave ‘Samavesh’ brings top business leaders on campus to interact with our students. The rapid growth of the business has presented the need for a very large number of senior and middle-level management professionals in most companies. They are required to have a general management perspective with focused domain expertise on the businesses they serve. There exists a huge gap between the current demand for such professionals and their availability.

In terms of domain, 25% of the class is from Manufacturing/Automotive followed by 20% Banking & Financial Services, 7% IT SAP Consulting/ERP, 6% IT Technology, 4% each in IT Products and Consulting and 3% Infrastructure.

In function, 31% is from IT/Technology followed by 16% Sales and 12% each in Project Management and Process & Operations.

Finance Specialization

Students specializing in Finance in the PGPM class of 2017 come with an average experience of 7.4 years and have exhibited excellence in a variety of industries and functions ranging from Trade Finance, Investment Research, Banking, Investment Management, Credit Risk, Audit, Project Accounting, Equity Research and Management and Technology Consulting.

The international immersion, aimed at providing a global perspective will take the students to one of the most coveted Ivy League institutions in the United States, Cornell University, where they learn the nuances of Global Markets & Valuation, Finance Analytics and Consulting.

Finance Industry-wise, 29% is from IT-BFSI/SAP Consulting followed by 14% each from Audit, Banking, Financial Analysis, Investment Research/Business Valuation/Consulting and Project Accounting & Management.

Function-wise, 14% each are in Accounting/Reporting/Forecasting, Asset Development, Financial Audit, General Banking/Credit, Investment Analyst, Power Transmission Projects and Tech Support & Development for Trading.

Information Management

The Information Management (IM) cohort of PGPM 2017 comprises professionals with 6.9 years of average work experience ranging from 4.9 to 13.4 years who have worked across continents. They have rich expertise in Service Delivery, IT Strategy, Business Development, Consulting, BI & Analytics, Product Development & Management and Risk & Compliance roles across sectors such as BFSI, Telecom, IT Products, Life Sciences, Healthcare, Retail, e-Commerce, SAP, e-Governance, CMT, IT Services and Mobile Apps.

The students also have extensive expertise in cutting-edge technologies such as Enterprise Mobility, Cloud Services, ERP, Business Intelligence etc. The International immersion at McCombs Business School at the University of Texas, USA helps in strengthening the global market perspective.

Marketing

The Marketing cohort has sales and marketing star performers from leading IT, Telecom, Oil & Gas, Retail & FMCG, Automotive, Consulting, Manufacturing and Pharma/Life Sciences and Healthcare. It also includes research mavens who focus on markets, metrics and methodology.

With an average age of 29 years and average work experience of 6.6 years, they are already in the thick of action – balancing theory and marketing simulations with real-life insights from experienced marketers, listening to the voice of customers and keeping their ears close to the ground to discover emerging trends.

Beyond the classroom, they are taking up internship and research work across all sectors. Consumer analytics and transforming service deliveries, google-Adwords strategy, marketing plans are some of the group’s endeavours. Their international immersion will take them to Cornell University in the US where they will learn the finer aspects of consumer insights for decision making, marketing analytics, and application of marketing principles amongst a host of other subjects.

Operations & Supply Chain

In Operations & Supply Chain. The cohort is a mix of professionals from diversified industries such as Oil and Gas, Power and Utilities, Infrastructure, FMCG, Automotive, Manufacturing, Marine, Consulting & E-Commerce.The class comprises of 42 individuals with an average work experience of 6.4 years, ranging from 4.9 years to 11.3 years including international experience.

Participants in the program begin with general management courses and then take on specialization specific courses such as Product Management, Project Management, Lean Enterprise and Operations Strategy (to name a few). They also enhance their business acumen by working with industry leaders in the field of e-commerce, supply chain and manufacturing, as a part of the internship program.

An advanced course, such as the one in Supply Chain Management from Eli Broad School of Business, Michigan State University, USA, will further hone their proficiency.
